Ten classmates — five Jewish and five Catholic Poles — grow up as friends and neighbors, then hatred and antisemitism awaken with life and death consequences. Inspired by real-life events surrounding a 1941 pogrom in a small Polish village, this shocking, timely story follows their lives from childhood through eight decades in a new contemporary production of Tadeusz Słobodzianek's masterpiece from Ukrainian-born Jewish director Igor Golyak.

A mystical Yiddish folktale, this is a story of love, family, displacement, and the restless Jewish soul. Steeped in folklore and cultural tradition, reimagined in a contemporary new production by Ukrainian-born, Jewish director Igor Golyak, The Dybbuk is set in the heart of the historic sanctuary of The Vilna Shul, Boston’s Center for Jewish Culture on Beacon Hill, and stars Andrey Burkovskiy as the Dybbuk and Yana Gladkikh as Leah, two tragic young lovers hovering between the worlds of the living and the beyond.

The Orchard invites us into the fragile world of a family yearning for connection and struggling with the end of their world as they know it. Threatened with foreclosure and the loss of their beloved orchard, they face unstoppable, destructive forces that dismantle their lives like the breaking of a string.

The Orchard is a hybrid piece of theater at the nexus of theater, film, robotics, and gaming, and can be seen in two formats- live & in person at Baryshnikov Arts Center in New York, and the Virtual Experience online worldwide. The online experience invites audiences on a journey through a beautifully rendered, three dimensional virtual property that has been abandoned and is in foreclosure. There, audiences can explore and discover magical rooms where they uncover echoes of a past life, now lost, including Chekhov’s letters, memories, and ultimately the play, live, in progress.

The in-person and online versions will run concurrently — live — for each performance. Partway through the performances, the two versions intersect, and the worlds come together. The Orchard is a powerful, deeply human re-telling of the story led by Jessica Hecht as Ranevskaya and Mikhail Baryshnikov as Anton Chekhov and Firs. Join us for this theatrical experience where genres collide, the past is truly prologue to the present, and no two performances are exactly the same.

WITNESS is a bold and complex new documentary theater piece that bears witness to the migratory experience of Jews today and throughout history. Based on interviews of Jewish people around the world by the Arlekin company members, along with historical records and letters collected from archives at the National Holocaust Memorial Museum, this timely piece tells a multiplicity of stories of migration, displacement, antisemitism, home, and identity.

WITNESS is set aboard the 1939 ocean liner the SS St Louis, the ship that famously left Germany with over 900 Jews on board who were seeking to escape the rise of the Nazi party, only to be turned away at every port. In this moment of rising antisemitism worldwide, we ask the question, ‘where do unwanted people go?'" WITNESS, set on a digital boat, brings the audience and actors together for a live, immersive experience, moving between countries and time periods in a game of life and death set in a virtual world from Arlekin’s Zero Gravity (zero-G) Virtual Theater Lab.
